Will there be permanent damage to my ears?
Damage with ear stretching/gauging differs from person to person. There is a GENERAL “point of no return” which is about 0ga. Once you pass this point noticeable damage could possibly occur. If your ears are gauged or stretched smaller than 0ga then the hole can return to normal and will be barely noticable. There will most likely be a little “dot” where the piercing took place.

If you do pass the 0ga point, the hole can still
go back to “normal”, the chance of this decreases with size though.
If you are worried about your ears not returning to normal, I would not recommend
passing the 0ga size.
This isn't the only way your ears can become
permanently damaged. Improper cleaning, overstretching, and other complications
can occur. (see "How
fast can I stretch my ears?" and "How
should I take care of my piercing?"
